Intensive Sex Therapy Training Program

The Intensive Sex Therapy Training Program is an intensive five (5) day program that provides specialized training in sex counselling and therapy. The program includes basic and advanced skills, theoretical models and content materials for sex therapy with a range of clients. The program is designed to provide practicing clinicians and graduate students with the knowledge and skills necessary to assess and treat the sexual concerns and complaints of individual and couples.

Teaching methods include lectures, videos and practice therapy sessions with participants simulating clients and consultation teams. Consultation on participants' cases can be provided. Most of the instruction comes from members of the Board of Examiners for Sex Therapy and Counselling in Ontario.

The 2012 Intensive Sex Therapy Training Program wil be held at the Delta Hotel in Guelph Ontario from June 3 - 8, 2012.

There is an application process for this Sex Therapy Training Program. The requirments include:

  1. Completion of the registration form online or in print format.
  2. Submission of your resume (1-2 pages), outline your education, experience and current practice.
  3. Completion of a previous Sex Therapy course/workshop.
  4. Full registration fee. (payment will be processed on approval).

Peggy J. Kleinplatz, Ph.D.

Peggy J. Kleinplatz, Ph.D. is Professor of Medicine and Clinical Professor of Psychology at the University of Ottawa.  She is a clinical psychologist, Certified in Sex Therapy (BESTCO, AASECT), Sex Education and as a Diplomate in and Supervisor of Sex Therapy.  Since 1983, she has been teaching Human Sexuality at the School of Psychology, University of Ottawa, where she received the Prix d'Excellence in 2000.  She also teaches Sex Therapy at the affiliated Saint Paul University's Institute of Pastoral Studies.  She is former Chair of Certifications for the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists.  She is in clinical practice and deals with sexual issues in individual, couple and group therapy and offers inter-disciplinary training to those in medicine, psychology and social work.  She has published extensively on sexual problems and how to assess, diagnose and deal with them in clinical practice and serves on the editorial boards of several sexology journals.  Dr. Kleinplatz has edited two books, most notably, New Directions in Sex Therapy: Innovations and Alternatives, (Routledge, 2001, 2nd Edition, 2012), a book intended to challenge, expand and diversify the field of sex therapy.  Her clinical work focuses on eroticism and transformation.  Her current research focuses on optimal sexuality, with a particular interest in sexual health in the elderly, disabled and marginalized populations.
