Sexual Attitudes Reassessment Weekend

June 12 - 13, 2010

Instructors: Susan Neeb, MSW, RSW, AAMFT and Dr. Stephen Holzapfel, Womens College Hospital

When we think about sexual topics, our feelings are seldom neutral. They consist instead of a complex mix of anxiety, fear, joy, excitement, guilt, anger, exhilaration, disgust and curiosity. Join us in 2010 for this opportunity to expand your ideas about sexuality and sexual expression.

The objective of the SAR weekend is to give participants an opportunity to assess their beliefs, attitudes and values regarding aspects of human sexuality. Sexual issues encountered throughout a person’s lifetime are addressed, including: developmental sexuality, sexual myths, masturbation, fantasy, extra-couple relationships, intimate heterosexual, bisexual, gay and lesbian relationships, sexual abuse, HIV and AIDS, sexual variations, BDSM, cybersex, disability and aging.

Methods used in the workshop include brief presentations, discussion and reflections; references from video, music and literature; and panels of individuals sharing personal experiences. Media used in the SAR will often be emotionally evocative and/or sexually explicit. There will be scenes that may be distressing, but the majority will be joyful. These presentations will be followed by small group sessions in which participants are provided opportunities for processing feelings through dialogue and discussion. This format is designed to provide sexual and life enhancement through expanding participants’ personal and professional awareness and understanding of today’s most relevant sexual issues.

The SAR meets the certificate requirements of the Board of Examiners for Sex Therapy and Counselling of Ontario (BESTCO) and the American Association of Sex Educators, Counsellors and Therapists (AASECT).
